Farnham – Farnham Castle’s Home Town – Named One of the Top Places to Live in the UK in 2025

We are delighted that The Times recently named Farnham one of the best places to live in the UK, and for us it’s no wonder.

Farnham is known throughout Surrey and Hampshire for its beautiful rural location, Georgian properties, prestigious schools, fascinating history, proximity to London, safe environment and great independent restaurants and bars. Farnham is a hidden gem, popular with both students and families, and particularly in demand amongst those moving out from London whilst still needing commuter links.

Farnham played a very important part in British history during the Bronze Age, Iron Age, and during Roman and Saxon times. However, it was in 1138 when William the Conqueror’s grandson, Henry de Blois, started building Farnham Castle for the affluent and powerful Bishops of Winchester, that it became hugely significant. The Castle was the perfect stopover between Winchester and London for both Bishops and royalty, with nearly all of the Kings and Queens of England (with the exception of Queen Elizabeth III and Charles III) being recorded as visiting or staying at Farnham Castle.

The Castle and Bishop’s Palace has stood, over-looking the glorious market town of Farnham, for over 900 years, and the views from our historic Castle Keep stretch over Farnham Park (once a Deer Park and the ‘route’ from Hampton Court Palace), and far-beyond into the Surrey and Hampshire countryside. Every room inside Farnham Castle boasts incredible views, and our location, at the top of Castle Street makes us easy to find, and be seen, from quite literally anywhere in the town.

We are fortunate that Farnham Castle has stood the test of time, and is now an award-winning private venue for weddings, events and meetings, and we couldn’t be prouder of its history both past and present.

We have the pleasure of welcoming guests from all across the UK, and many international guests and clients, and offer everything from incredible Weddings, to Private Parties, Meetings, Corporate events, Summer Parties, Supper Clubs and magical Christmas Parties. We have a team of talented in-house chefs who prepare and cook all our Menus in the Castle Kitchens, and we are also able to offer on-site accommodation, comprising of 34 bedrooms, for guests attending an event at the Castle.  The opportunity to stay overnight and enjoy a ‘Castle breakfast’, is one that many of our guests’ relish, leaving with the most wonderful memories the following morning.
