With Autumn comes change at Farnham Castle

John Keats

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;…

As the seasons change, there’s always a sense of excitement here at Farnham Castle, coupled with so much for us to think about and do; from the preparation of our grounds for the Winter, to creating our seasonal menus, and considering the comfort of all of our guests. We switch from constant use of The Great Lawn, for receptions and summer parties, to ensuring that indoors our guests are warm and welcomed.

Autumn Menus

From Winter warmers to spiced desserts, our Head Chef, Simon, is in his element when it comes to creating our Autumn and Winter menus. For example, this year, our guests will be enjoying dishes which include tartlets of Red wine-soaked pickled pears with Norbury blue cheese and chestnuts, cured smoke scented salmon, char roasted cauliflower, and pan roasted Guinea fowl. Each dish full of seasonal flavour and locally sourced produce, of course.

Autumnal Weddings

Autumn is a sensational season to host a wedding and we love nothing more than witnessing the floral creations and decorations inspired by the florists who have been commissioned to transform our Fox’s Steps, Lantern Hall and Great Hall. Vibrant pops of burnt orange, moss green and ochre look breath-taking against our historic features, stunning windows and high ceilings. Floral installations look incredible anywhere, but never better than on the central chandelier in our Great Hall, bringing the wow factor every time!

Magnificent Mantlepieces

There’s nothing more striking than a grand fireplace, and we’re lucky enough to feature one in almost every room in the Castle; from the simple decorative focal point fireplaces in our Library, to the larger fireplaces in our Winchester and Talbot suites, and our Guest Bedroom suite, ‘The Guildford’. Every mantlepiece looks incredible decorated with florals and foliage.  Dating back to 1949, the most spectacular fireplace of all, is in our Great Hall, and is inscribed in Latin ‘A DIEU FOY, AUX AMIS FOYER’, ‘To God my faith, to my friends my hearth’.

Christmas and the Parties

We throw parties every month, but with the biggest party season of the year nearly upon us, our teams are looking forward to, and preparing for, the most wonderful time of the year. If you’re looking to host an end of year corporate event, of any kind, or you’d like to Join a Party, our Event team is ready to help you celebrate here at the Castle.
