Wedding Ceremony and Reception
Kate and her bridal party arrived at Farnham Castle early on 28th June, so that they could get ready in the comfort of the pretty Gatehouse. Colin calmed his nerves in the Guildford Suite and both bride and groom-to-be headed off to Holy Family Catholic Church in Farnham for their 1pm wedding ceremony. Kate walked down the aisle with her father to Bridal Chorus by Wagner and after being announced as husband and wife in front of 110 guests, the newlywed couple and their party travelled back to Farnham Castle in a statement Red London Bus – a lovely experience for Colin’s family and friends who had travelled over from America for the wedding.
Upon arrival at Farnham Castle, guests enjoyed the views of Farnham from the Great Lawn as they sipped celebratory fizz and enjoyed canapes prepared by the in-house kitchen team. Kate and Colin spent time wandering the Castle grounds and historic Keep with their photographer while guests played a combination of British and American lawn games before being called in to the Great Hall for dinner. The Castle Keep, located just behind Farnham Castle is an idyllic spot for wedding photography and is also a lovely attraction for out-of-town visitors to see during their stay in Farnham.
Reception table decorations were kept low, so that the focus was on the beautifully decorated chandelier above. Charity pins were given to guests as favours and tables were named after Kate and Colin’s favourite pubs from London and across the pond. Farnham Castle’s specialist wedding chefs prepared a sumptuous three course menu for the wedding party.
Chosen Wedding Menu:
Starter: Chorizo and sausage meat scotch egg with tomato, fennel and paprika ragu and pork scratching.
Main Course: Pan seared marinated lamb rump and potato rosti with pea puree, mint salsa verde and rosemary jus.
Dessert: Sticky toffee pudding, hot butterscotch sauce and vanilla pod ice cream.
A further 15 evening guests joined the happy couple to witness the cutting of their four tier Wedding Cake, followed by dancing to a live band and DJ in the Great Hall throughout the night. After saying their goodbyes and spending a few extra moments with over night guests, Kate and Colin retired to The Guildford Suite to chat about the different elements of their perfect day. The following morning, guests gathered in the Library for breakfast with a view, before departing Farnham Castle with fond memories.
Kate and Colin went on a mini-moon to the Amalfi Coast in Italy right after the wedding, followed by an official 3 week honeymoon to New Zealand in early 2020.
Favourite Wedding Day Moments
Everyone says that a wedding day goes by in a flash, but there are some very special memories that really stand out. Colin’s top three wedding day moments were, seeing Kate in her wedding dress, spending a few moments alone throughout the day, and seeing all of their best friends come together to have a great time! Kate’s top moments were, finally saying ‘I do’, the amazing food created by Farnham Castle’s team of chefs, seeing all of their friends and family come together, and finally, being spun around on the dance floor by Colin during their first dance to ‘Say You Won’t Let Go’ by James Arthur.
